SANITY ROAD is a suspense-drama that is very timely. We live in a polarized world of "Us vs. Them" with ideologies that separate rather than unite. The main character, Billy, represents acceptance and respect, where everybody belongs and is welcomed. Something we desperately need today.
"Young Billy is put into a mental institute for talking to animals, rocks, clouds and "God" and they all talk back, according to Billy. Upon his release, he sets out on a mysterious road trip to find some answers."
SANITY ROAD is Cuckoo's Nest meets Forrest Gump with a dash of The Shining.
Since Billy's mother was a single mom and he was born on Christmas, she told him he came straight from Heaven. Consequently, Billy thinks "God" is his actual father and speaks with him often. Eventually, he proves too much for his mother to handle and is placed in a mental hospital for 9 years, where his pure goodness inspires patients, nurses, and one doctor in particular. But with no change in his condition, he's released and returns home.
One day, Billy sees a televangelist, who also claims to speak directly to "God". Intrigued, Billy hitchhikes from California to Texas to meet him. Billy's road trip proves to be mysterious, enlightening and terrifying, while back at the hospital, a vicious patient torments Billy's best friend to the point of suicide.
In the end, will good triumph over Evil? Will Billy's positive philosophy be felt? And will his questions finally be answered?
SANITY ROAD reveals a boy becoming the best version of himself, full of empathy and compassion, while facing oncoming forces wanting to harm the vulnerable. This screenplay has never been needed more than now. See where the road takes you.
